Attendance

  • Over 1,000 youth and children served annually
  • 215 members attended Hope Learning Academy  (155 children/60 youth)
  • 7,050 total hours of tutoring
  • 2,325 hours of summer learning educational support
  • 80% juniors and  seniors (active members) are on track for graduation

College Visits

  • 33 youth attended college visits in 2011
  • Visits to the following colleges this year: Northwest Missouri State, University of North Texas, Baylor Texas, Huston-Tillotson University, St. Louis University, Harris-Stowe State University, Grace University, University Nebraska Omaha
  • 145 total youth visited colleges since 2008
  •   37 different colleges visited since 2008

  • 29 elementary schools

  • 26  High schools

Strengths

  • 206 members (80 youth and 116 children) have completed StrengthsFinder surveys
  • 94% of the youth stated they knew and understood their strengths
  • 89% of youth thought knowing about their strengths helped them in school
  • 78% of students used their strengths in their job or job interests
  • 81% of students indicate Hope Center for Kids provides them meaningful opportunities to use their strengths to be a leader and serve the community
  • 80% of the youth reported increased confidence as a result of knowing their strengths

Graduation

  • Young woman  received the Susan Buffet scholarship to use at any Nebraska school(sophomore at UNO)
  • 11 high school graduates in 2010 (85%)
  • 3 former youth received GED or Alternative education degree
  • 6 of the 11 graduates are attending college (55%)
  • 45  high school graduates between the years 2006-2011 (90%)
  • 12 former graduates attending college presently (24%)
  • 39 of 40 youth hired in Employability program graduated from high school or received their GED (98%)

  • 55 youth and children attended Kids Across America camp
  • 9 youth attended Higher Ground leadership program

  • 1,080 contacts  youth development meetings
  • 540 contacts  Boys to Men
  • 1000 hours of social skills teaching and practice
  • 480 contacts  summer youth development
  • 90% of actively enrolled youth participated in weekly youth development programs
  • 90% of actively enrolled youth participated in community learning projects
  • 90% decrease in discipline problems in school and at the Hope Center for Kids since 2006

  • 4 former youth staff are part-time program staff
  • 10 youth staff currently working at Hope Center for Kids
  • 8 youth worked for Hope through community partner arrangements (Goodwill/Urban League)
  • 2 hours of required youth staff  training each week
  • 100 hours of required youth staff training
  • 24 hours of program staff development
  •  12,000 program hours of employment for youth in the community

 

Intervention, Hope Center for Kids, North Omaha

 

 

  • 3 Hope members received GED or high school graduation after graduation with Hope assistance
  • 3 youth re-engaged in school through Hope staff
  • 30-40 young men involved in “After Hope” every Tuesday evening
  • Engaged police officers/gang officers/ gang prevention specialists to meet with youth in program
  • Engaged UNO professors in employability training/ interview techniques/job placement
  • Direct intervention during crisis situation to diffuse heightened neighborhood tensions
  • Engaged in case study of gangs in Omaha
  • Introduction of Village Basketball Alliance to provide at-risk youth with a community activity to promote healthy, competitive, safe ways to get to know other youth in the community
