Hope Center for Kids Sponsors

  • Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha has offered us the opportunity to develop a Higher Learning Academy in which members will be academically monitored to ensure they fulfill graduation credits and requirements, undergo proper preparation for the ACT/SAT college entrance exams, and take advantage of scholarships available for colleges or trades schools. The youth will be able to visit various institutions in the state of Nebraska, along with some national visits.

The Higher Learning Academy currently serves our upperclassmen high school students, but will soon expand to include our junior high students. Research reveals that kids develop and decide their opinions of attending college as young the fourth grade. Our goal is to offer the Higher Learning Academy and its services for all youth at the Hope Center to continue to foster a culture of academic progression and success.

  • University of Nebraska at Omaha Service-Learning Academy

The UNO Service-Learning Academy and the Hope Center for Kids collaboration has grown from a semester project to a passionate relationship to build curriculum in the areas of youth development and employability. Each semester, UNO's advanced business classes design specific projects to help develop the Hope Center's business plans to benefit North Omaha youth.

In order to fund these projects, students write grants and engage local business to support the programs. The purpose of service-learning is to empower youth by conducting student-led opportunities for positive change through student voice, community service and leadership development. Annual conferences also help guide the youth in common service-learning practices, and serve as a springboard for creative ideas to impact local neighborhoods.
