Our Mission
The vision for the Hope Center for Kids took root in the heart of one man, Pastor Ty Schenzel. Believing that his mission and life purpose was to offer hope to children in the inner city, Pastor Ty began by building a foundation of trust in the community. He set up discussion groups between the white youth from his West Omaha church and black teens from North Omaha. Through these sessions, the young people were able to gain a better understanding of each other's culture, and the Lord began to draw the two groups together in a mighty way.
In 1998, thanks to the generosity of two men, the former Gene Eppley Boys Club was purchased and fueled Pastor Ty's dream into a reality. Ten years later, the Hope Center for Kids continues to provide urban youth and children with opportunities to grow spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually. Hope offers its 300+ kids a place to belong, a sense of security and a multitude of avenues to grow into productive adults by providing programs that engage every aspect of the child. Program activities include the areas of athletics, art, education, social skills and employment training, community service and Biblical life teaching.
Our Vision
The Hope Center for Kids believes the following four areas will have a profound impact in the positive change in our North Omaha youth and children:
Faith: TRUSTING that each member will have the opportunity to hear about the Lord.
Education: TEACHING each member to succeed academically and pursue higher learning.
Employment: TRAINING each member to become employable through social and job skills training.
Collaboration: TEAMING with others to do what cannot be done alone to reach more youth.
